Our Story

In 1999, Dwayne King and his son David carved a runway from the bush marking the beginning of a vision Dwayne had for missionary pilot training. Having flown extensively in Alaska and Far East Russia for more than 30 years, he realized the necessity of the use of aircraft to reach the hundreds of towns and villages in these regions. Eighty-five percent of Alaskan towns and villages are unreachable by road.

As David’s King Ranch property began to develop, church volunteer groups built cabins, a hangar, and a dining hall. Volunteer aviation mechanics and flight instructors began coming on a regular basis and the number of flight students increased yearly. Basic to the plan of training pilots was preparing them spiritually and experientially by involving them in hands-on missionary work.

The Kings assumed leadership of Brooks Range Bible Camp in 1980, and the camp, coupled with the ministry in Arctic Alaska, has become a major training ground for Kingdom Air Corps pilots and mechanics, both for casting the vision and for practical training among spiritually hungry regions of the North.

Currently, Kingdom Air Corps has 11 missionary staff families. In addition
to flight training operations at the Ranch in Chickaloon, KAC also has a hangar, flight training and a ground training classroom at Palmer Municipal Airport in Palmer, Alaska, where primary flight students complete most of their initial training. The cooks serve about 15,000 meals each season to our hard-working staff, students, volunteers and guests. Flight instructors give about 1,500 hours of flight instruction, culminating in many new flight endorsements and ratings. The staff of Kingdom Air Corps looks forward to future growth and expansion as we follow the Lord’s guidance and direction.

Our Mission

Kingdom Air Corps’ (KAC) purpose is to bring the gospel to the difficult-to-reach places of the earth. Those who train at KAC learn mountain and bush flight operations, experiencing first hand the challenges of flying in isolated areas and how to operate safely and effectively in those environments. Students study with experienced mechanics and pilots, many of whom have ministered in remote mission fields around the world. In addition to aviation training, students at KAC participate in a variety of intercultural ministries, sharing the Gospel day-to-day, ministering in churches, and working in summer Bible camps for native Alaskan children and teens.

KAC grew from a far-reaching vision of Dwayne King, an experienced missionary bush pilot and flight instructor, who saw the need to equip future missionary pilots to minister and operate in outlying areas around the world. In 1999, after retiring from a life of missionary service with SEND, Dwayne and his son, Dave, began to clear land in Chickaloon, Alaska to establish what is now King Ranch Airport, the training base for Kingdom Air Corps. Since then, King Ranch has grown and expanded, and an additional flight training base has been established in Palmer, Alaska.
